One of the goals of this project is to develop linguistically and culturally appropriate interventions for survivors of intimate partner violence among Latin@ communities. This entails not only reviewing the extant IPV prevention and treatment literature, but also talking to service providers, and determining linguistic variants for the most commonly used lexicons in IPV work — medical, legal, physical, abuse and sexual violence, parts of the body, and so on.
Ashley Bennink, a doctoral candidate in the Departamento de Filología Española at the Universidad de Oviedo, España, has developed this lexical glossary of terms and their variances related to IPV. The work is based on her doctoral research.
The glossary is available in English and Spanish, but is password protected. If you’d like to request access, please email Lucia Binotti (firstname.lastname@example.org).
